Abu Du'a has been the head of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. His nom de guerre is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. He is also a scholar of Islam called Dr. Ibrahim. He has a Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic studies from a university in Baghdad. He's thought to have been an Imam around the time of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. His full official name is Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri al-Samarrai. He was born in 1971 in Samarra. He's been linked to numerous high-profile deadly suicide attacks, and on October 4, 2011 the US government began offering $10 million for information leading to his capture. He has been leading a group of militants in Syria and Iraq who call themsleves the the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (alternatively translated as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham). On June 29, 2014 he announced his leadership as Caliph over a Sunni Muslim Caliphate in territory captured from Syria and Iraq. He appealed to Muslims with nation-building skills like scholars, judges, doctors, engineers, and administrators to migrate to him. He also issued a call to arms for militants from around the world to flock to him in order to fight for establishing a multi-ethnic Muslim state.
