Chief, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command
Ahmed Jibril was born around 1938 near Jaffa in the then British Mandate of Paestine. He is the founder and commander of the Marxist-leaning Syria-based Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine General Command (PFLP-GC) that conducts paramilitary operations in Palestine, Lebanon, and Israel, and rejects proposals for peaceful settlement with Israel. He rose to captain in the Syrian Army from 1956 to 1958. In 1959, he founded the Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF). In 1967, he helped found the PFLP as a Communist supported alternative to Yasser Arafat’s Fatah movement. In 1968, he founded the PFLP-GC.
