Mullah Akhtar Mohammed Mansour
Akhtar Mansoor was killed by a drone while traveling in a vehicle in Pakistan. Afghan government authorities say he had been "the main figure preventing the Taliban from joining the peace process." He became the elected leader of the Taliban in July 2015 following the 2013 death of its founder, Mullah Omar. He was born in 1963. He was an ethnic Pashtun from the Kandahar province of Afghanistan. He was a noted warrior during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. He was educated in Islam through the madrassah system. He had been a warrior, refugee, prisoner, and Taliban official.
