Qasim al-Rimi was likely killed in the Seal Team 6 raid on an al-Qaeda headquarters in Yemen that happened in January 2017. He was the senior military commander for al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). He escaped from a Yemeni prison in 2006. He and Nasir al-Wahishi announced the emergence of al-Qaida in Yemen (AQY) in 2007. He played an important role in recruiting the current generation of militants making up the Yemen-based group, and he orchestrated many deadly attacks. He was reported dead multiple times. The US Department of State was offering a $5 million reward for information that helps to capture him.
