Ali Atwa is a Lebanese national born in Lebanon in 1960, and he is an operative with Hezbollah in Lebanon. On June 14, 1985 he was to have been one of the hijackers of TWA flight 847 from Athens to Rome, but he was bumped from the flight. After the hijacking to Beirut, he was arrested in Greece and then released as part of a deal to free hostages. During the 17 day ordeal in which Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem was killed, flight 847 made two trips to Algiers and Ali Atwa managed to join in on the hijacking while the plane was there. The U.S. Department of Justice is offering $5 million for information that brings him to justice. Although he reportedly died of cancer in October 2021.
