David Williams, also known as Dauod, allegedly participated in a plot to bomb two synagogues in the Bronx and shoot down planes flying from a New York Air National Guard base. The alleged ring-leader was James Cromitie. Two other accomplices were Onta Williams, and Laguerre Payen. They became known as the "Newburgh Four." The FBI arrested them after they planted car bombs outside their targets. They also obtained from an undercover agent what they allegedly thought was a functional Stinger missile. David was convicted in 2010 and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2011. In July 2023, a judge granted him compassionate release noting that the FBI agents had been overzealous and had "invented the conspiracy."
