Al Qaeda Operative
Jose Padilla was born on October 18, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. He is also known as Muhajir Abdullah. He was sentenced in January 2008 to over 17 years in prison for conspiracy to kill people and fund overseas terrorism. In September 2011 the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the sentence imposed by a Miami federal judge was too lenient and sent the case back for a new sentencing hearing at which his sentence was increased to 21 years. Jose joined street gangs in Chicago and spent time in jail, where he converted to Islam. He was arrested in 2002, and held as a material witness on the 9-11 attacks upon returning from a trip that had taken him to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. He's in prison at ADX Supermax Prison in Florence, Colorado.
