Richard Reid was born August 12, 1973 in South London. He has an English mother and Jamaican father, He is the reason we all have to take off our shoes when passing through airport security. He is serving a life sentence at the ADX Florence, CO supermax prison as the “shoe bomber” who tried to take out American Airlines flight #63 from Paris to Miami by igniting plastic explosives in his shoes. Richard’s father was incarcerated for most of his childhood. Richard was frequently in trouble and spent considerable time in prison, where he converted to Islam.
