On July 27, 2009, Ziyad Yagi was arrested and charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and conspiring to murder, kidnap, maim, and injure persons abroad. On January 13, 2012, he was sentenced to 32 years in prison. He is a U.S. citizen. He was 21 years old at the time of his arrest. He is one of seven men simultaneously arrested near Raleigh, North Carolina on these charges. An eighth conspirator mentioned in the July 22 indictment is believed to be in Pakistan.

• I pray God that justice will be done and the people will see the innocence of this man who was falsely accused and imprisoned not on the principles of justice, truth, and peace; but instead of hate, fear, and hypocrisy. There are those who worship Jesus, not you God. They worship the words of the apostles , not you God. And they wreak havoc by amplifying the small differences between your followers to justify war, insults, and false imprisonment under a lie called , terrorists.
