Why can't Mohammad take an insult, and why can't the Qur'an take a little ridicule?
If you tell a skinny woman that she looks fat, then she will probably think you are joking. But, if you tell an overweight woman that she looks fat, then you might get slapped.
Historian Tom Howard, who's now in hiding, has been researching Islam. According to his book (In the Shadow of the Sword) and recent film (Islam, the Untold Story part 1, part 2), historians who wrote shortly after the days of Mohammed, don't mention him. The oldest literary work about Mohammed by Muslims is by Ibn Hisham who died in 833 A.D. That's 201 years after Mohammed died in 632 A.D.
Imagine if the oldest literary work about George Washington, who died in 1799, were written by someone who died in the year 2000!
By contrast, first-century Greek, Roman and Jewish historians (i.e. Thallus, Tacitus, and Josephus) dutifully mention Jesus. The oldest literary work about Jesus by Christians is by the Apostle Paul who died in 67 A.D. That's 34 years after Jesus died around 33 A.D.
We have writings about Jesus by people who lived at the time of Jesus. We have no writings about Mohammed by people who lived at the time of Mohammed.
Concerning the Qur'an, Muslim sources themselves say that Caliph Uthman, the third Caliph of the Muslim empire, finalized its text and then had burned all copies of different versions. It's like a real-world and self-admitted Da Vinci Code-level conspiracy.
Imagine if the Emperor of Rome at the time of the Apostle Paul had compiled an official version of the Gospel and then burned all the others!
I won't answer the question, "Why can't Mohammad take an insult, and why can't the Qur'an take a little ridicule?" If I did, I might need to go into hiding. But you can reach your own conclusions.

• I was listening to Usama Dakdok on this very issue and he would tell us that it's not really about the 'insults' to Islam, but it's a reason to attack the 'people of the book'. The Quran calls all 'believers' to slay the infidels (Jews and Christians). The underlying Islamic doctrine is driving the train.

Johnny on Sept. 14, 2012 12:01 p.m.• Our Lord said heaven and earth will finish but MY WORD WILL BE THERE TILL THE END OF TIMES. Lets just pray for them. (Muslims)

And then I except Jesus as my personal savior from that second until today which I am 44 years of age I have seen Jesus Christ many time a day through out the 24 years.
Mohammad on Sept. 17, 2012 2:20 p.m.• The Muslims call Christians and Jews as infidels and insist that we have to die. They don't know that the Bible says in Rm 3:23 that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Without Christ the whole world is infidel. 9/18/12

However, because of the trinity the Christian God can only be dishonored by himself and cannot be dishonored by creation. As a result, Christian societies do not worry about protecting God’s honor, but Muslim societies worry about god’s honor a lot.

I myself and Muslim and I can tell you that our holy book does not say to kill Christians or Jews. As a matter of fact, it tells us the People of the Book (Christians and Jews) will join us in Paradise as they follow God as well. Also, there are places in the world where Christians are persecuting Muslims as well. Just because you are not aware of the problem does not mean it doesn't exist. May God bless you all and thank you for this website. I am Muslim, again, but I will be praying for a terrorist. I think this is a fantastic idea.
Persia A. on June 05, 2013 12:53 a.m.• Hello Persia - Thank you for your understanding and patience with many of these remarks. You are right that people who are Christians are killing Muslims. It's happening in Afghanistan, and it happened in Kosovo, but it's done for politics and not for religion. It becomes "terrorism" when motivated by religion. Also, the idea that Muslims and Christians and Jews will all be together in Paradise is a modern impact of relativism. Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has stated that it is wrong for people to believe their version of religion is the only right way to believe. She thinks such exclusivism inspires terrorism. Just because many Christians and Muslims follow relativism, does not make it a teaching of Christianity or Islam. Islam teaches that salvation comes exclusively through Islam, and Christianity teaches that salvation comes exclusively through Jesus. It is true that all terrorists are exclusive, but it is not true that exclusivity inspires terrorism. Just like it is true that all babies are born from women, but it is not true that being a woman inspires having babies.

Radi on July 27, 2013 12:20 p.m.• Hmm, I don't think there are any copies of the Qur'an older than at least 200 years after Mohammed (PBUH), and using it to substantiate it's deliverer's biography is illogical circular reasoning. Also, the literary work about Mohammed (PBUH) that was written within 200 years of his death no longer exists. What exists today is a heavily edited and rewritten version by a different author, who himself claims to have "cleaned it up" because much of what was in it would have been "inappropriate" to pass along.

The minority people who lived in Vietnam called "Cham" used to have their kingdom called "Champa". The Cham used to be Hindu then Buddhists, then later they converted to Islam following Malaysia. They said following Islam will help them to free their kingdom from the Vietnamese invaders, because Islam is not truly religion but it's more like a system under one powerful man named Muhammed, and he was like the best general of Islam army that he cannot be challenged or can be criticized. That's what made his army powerful. The Cham converted from Hindu-Buddhism to Islam. Sadly the Vietnamese invaders were from South China, they're smarter than the Cham thought, the Viets used the same ruthless strategies toward their own people and forced their army to later took the whole Cham kingdom. The ruthless strategy has been used by Genghis Khan, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, North Korean supreme leader. Now the Vietnamese use the same demographic Islam strategy in the West to take Cambodia. Today, Cambodians and Laos are full of Vietnamese. Sadly even Islam fight to set up its Sharia laws in Europe and North America will not be succeeeded, because won't let it happen. Europeans will return to God as prophecized following the apparition in Fatima in Portugal in 1910's. God spreading the seeds of Ishmael then they will turn to worship God. But one thing I knew is No humans not even angels CAN Defeat Jesus Christ (God came in flesh in human form). His works are mighty works, He preaches only Love, Peace, and pray for your persecutors. I was Buddhist, I had visions saw Jesus, and I encountered a human being while no one saw but me. She told me...(cannot reveal). This is the TIME that Heaven testing humans, and who will not be tempted by Satan (Evils, Devils...), and if they fail the test, they will not be in heaven, but hell. God is pouring His Holy Spirit on Muslims, Buddhist like myself, and all cults to come to him. I think the Muslims are very good people too, but they are under Islam' s system, only the living God can bring them to light. He is Jesus Christ I saw in my dreams, He is the way, the truth and the light. I glorify my share of my little testimony to Lord Jesus Christ, the Mighty Living God.
